Congas are a great way to add some spicy percussive flair to your sound! Congas vary in size and setup, but are made to play with the palms, fingers and heels of your hands. Tall and narrow, congas can be played in pairs or by themselves. Like other drums, the sound produced by a particular conga is relative to its size, construction material, and drumhead selection.
Sizes range from the popular conga and quinto sizes to tumba and super tumba. The larger the drum, the deeper the sound. Many congas are constructed from some type of organic wood, and others are made from a more durable synthetic fiberglass/resin material. Drumheads also play a huge part in determining your conga sound. You can drastically change the sound of your instrument simply by changing your head material. Like standard drums, head materials vary from organic animal skin to inorganic synthetics - each with their own tonal characteristics.
